so this is done

So here's the final video from that project I've been posting about, this is probably my first time actually animating in 3D so all things considered it turned out pretty all right.

For this first one you should probably actually view it on youtube, in 720p, it's not as fuzzy.  In fact all of them would probably be better viewed in 720p, haha.

Really short walk cycle

BONUS

A WIP of Mabel & Dipper from Gravity Falls that I may never finish but maybe I will.

the zuz

More on this deal. FUN TIMES

I've changed the Zuzu model a bit to be more appealing, due to some feedback that mentioned she looked like a 'tiny adult'. I rounded her face, made her less 'curvy', brought her nose up, and enlarged her eyes a bit.
I've included the and older (blue lines) and current (black lines) versions, in her sass pose. you can definitely see a difference I think.

Here's also some texture passes, the first one was halfway between the old geometry, and the new one, so she's got some major chin stuff going on, haha.

I decided since this character is a girl and people keep thinking she's a boy, I'd get some eyelash enhancements all up in this. Here's a before and after on that:

It's definitely Maybeline

This is also experimenting with some skin shader settings (Maya SSS Fast Skin with pretty much default settings, haha) I liked how it looked here, but unfortunately found out too late my model was flippin' huge  and unless I wanted to rename my short 'Attack of the 40 Foot Tall Baby', I had to fix that. But scaling her down messed up the lighting and skin shader settings so I had to start from scratch. :c

This is where she's at now, I need to do a bit more on the onesie texture, particularly that tree needs to be a dark green and not so blurry. I want the lighting on her face to be a bit warmer and less dark brown/red but I'm having a hard time getting there.

So next was the environment, here's my first pass, which kind of ended up as my final pass, haha, guess the first time was the charm. This is definitely with subdivision preview on, I would show you the one without it but it's too hilarious, you'd die.

Some rough lighting here.

Here's my lighting concept/color key/what have you

I have a screenshot of my model with an attempt at this lighting but again, its hilarity is too much. Instead you can have the one with the box in it and also some ornaments on the tree (some of them are currently attempting to escape or absorb into the tree)

This does have textures but it is an assault on the eyes at it's current stage.

AND THAT'S IT.

BONUS

nothing :c

zuzu model update

here's some progress on this little lady.

1st round, face having lots of issues, eyelids are my bane.

high poly preview turned on in this one, kind of getting there, her eyes are still too high though and the hair is kinda blobby. Her mouth really bothers me in this screenshot, haha.

here's where she's at now, again high poly preview turned on, her head is a bit too far forward, and her ears need some moving around but I like where her face is at, and her hair turned out better than I thought, thank you crease tool!

She's also rigged and has some rudimentary skinning so I could put her in the pose from my character sheet :D

next step, unwrapping and some textures all up in this.

SUPER BONUS

How she looks without high poly preview on: her eyes are pretty wacky, haha

environments or whatevs

So I'm going to be posting some junk I did for my classes since finals are wrapping up, and hopefully I'll be able to some personal stuff over the break.

First, two environments I did for a CG environment class. I designed, modeled, textured, etc. This is the interior, I was going for an Edwardian reading room kind of look, definitely stemming from some recent marathons of Downtown Abbey but I mostly wish I had a window seat...and a library, and time to read. :C

Here's the concept sketch, check out those carefully drawn lines. :B

floorplan (this changed a bit in the end)

furniture reference images

room reference (with cheesy design statement)

initial lighting render, I liked this but it was mentioned the windows glowed a bit too much and the lighting didn't make sense from where it was coming from.

and final render, a few things to tweak, but they are minor. I changed up the lighting from the concept to emphasize the table more, and based on feedback. I really enjoyed this assignment.

and something I'm less fond of but nevertheless am uploading for consistency, is the exterior portion of the class, initially this was also a choose what you want type of thing but we found out later in the course that we had to integrate this assignment with another class, so the concept was chosen for us, as well as all the research, etc. There was also a poly limit of 2000. It was a good learning experience for meeting a design statement of course, but I wasn't so excited about working on this.

I'm having a few normal map issues here too, and some lighting, but this is where this is at right now. I think down the road I want to create what I would have done for the exterior had I been given a choice, for funsies. :D

So there ya go :D

BONUS ROUND:

close up of the figurative sculpture I did in the sculpting class,  the face turned out pretty all right for being terrible at sculpture, and it being my first attempt, and it being quite small. I didn't get to finish the hands unfortunately, but hey.

3d work and a unicornlady

Trying to take a bit of a break from the mermaid thing by working on other projects.
Here's the WIP of the Hades Breaching Drill I've been doing in 3ds max, the texture still needs a bit of work, as does the spec map (and the normal map a bit), the drills aren't as defined as I want them yet. But yea! I'm pretty proud of the glowing lights, figured that out on my own. :D

ALSO a WIP of naked unicorn girl, this is actually for an animal anatomy assignment if you could believe it. While working on this one, I was thinking that maybe style of doing lineart is kind of convoluted...I do a quick sketch with a thicker brush, then erase and fix on the same layer, instead of tracing over the sketch on a new layer. :| I just can't seem to get the same quality when I trace over my own work, I dunno.
